What do I need to get started on an ICS course?
For
most courses you don't need any previous experience or
qualifications. All you need is a desire to succeed!
How does the distance learning method work?
To make studying as flexible and convenient as possible, all
our paper-based courses are divided into bite-sized modules
that consist of clearly identified study units. You work
through each unit at your own pace. At the end of each unit
there is a testpaper for you to complete and send to your
tutor for marking. Your tutor will return this to you with
your mark and any comments.
With all our courses you only move on to a new module after
successfully completing the previous one – and only when you
feel ready. With useful tips and self-assessments at every
stage, you'll find your confidence and ability increasing
steadily as you progress.
What
is the online Student Community?
Our fantastic online Student Community has been designed to
allow you to interact with, and learn from, other ICS members,
students and experts. As a member of the community you will be
able to share information, engage in discussions, browse our
resource library and voice your opinions through student
surveys.
You will also have access to online Customer Services where you
will be able to update your personal details, make payments
and, in most cases, submit test papers and other queries to
our tutor.
To become a member you don't need to be a student – just register
on this site today!
How long should it take to complete my course?
Depending on the course, it may take a few months or as long
as three years – but most students complete their course
within a year.
How quickly will I receive my course material?
For online courses you will be able to start straight away
once your payment has been processed. For other courses your
enrolment should be processed within two days and your course
materials delivered within two weeks.
What
support will I receive Studying at home doesn't mean studying alone.
For all our paper-based courses, you will benefit from the support
of a Personal Tutor, experienced in helping students in a
distance learning situation. Your tutor will mark and comment
on your work, providing feedback and encouragement, plus
answering any queries you may have.
All students have access to our Student Advisors, who are only a
phone call away and can provide you with practical assistance
throughout your course. So we really are with you 100%.
Plus, you'll have access to our online Student Community, where you
can take part in forum discussions, complete surveys and
manage your account.
Will
I have to sit an examination?
For ICS Diploma courses there is generally no examination –
you are assessed on a continuous basis. For other
qualifications where an examination is required, you will
receive all the information you need to make your exam
arrangements with your first study shipment. For most courses,
exams are held in centres across the UK so you shouldn't have
far to travel to sit your exams if you are based in the UK.
Please note exam fees are not included in your course fee.
Can
I study from outside the UK?
Yes!
All our courses are available to overseas students. If there
is an exam with your course, however, in most cases you will
be required to come to the UK to take the exam. You may be
able to arrange to sit the exam at your local British Council
for some courses. We suggest you contact a course advisor if
your course has an examination requirement outside the UK.
What will I receive at the end of my course?
For all courses you will receive a recognised qualification
from the awarding body of your course, or an ICS Diploma.
